The dissolution of the Sarawak state legislative assembly has been officially confirmed, with the directive taking effect from October 26, according to Chief Minister Abang Johari Openg. The Yang di-Pertua Negeri, the state's constitutional head, granted formal assent to the dissolution, meeting the legal requirements for the process. This development signals the beginning of the electoral cycle for Sarawak, one of Malaysia's largest states by area and population. The dissolution typically triggers a 60-day window within which state elections must be called and conducted, in accordance with Malaysian electoral law. With the assembly now dissolved, the state government will transition into a caretaker period, during which ministers and assemblymen remain in office to handle routine administrative matters pending the election.
