Sarawak state election likely in December, says PBB official

Abdul Karim, the PBB's communications chief, noted that December 2024 will mark five years since Sarawak last held state elections on December 18, 2021. Under Malaysian constitutional provisions, state assemblies must dissolve and hold fresh elections within this timeframe.

The timing would place the election in the final month of the calendar year, though the exact date has not been officially announced by the Sarawak government. Electoral commissions typically schedule polling days with consideration for administrative readiness and public convenience.

The 2021 Sarawak state election saw the ruling coalition retain control of the state assembly. A December election would give voters the opportunity to determine the composition of the state legislature for the next term of office.

PBB, which has historically been the dominant political party in Sarawak, has not formally confirmed the election date. Final decisions on the timing rest with the state government and relevant electoral authorities.
