Sarawak state election likely in December, says pending assemblyman
A pending assemblyman in Sarawak has indicated that the state's next general election could be held in mid-to-late December, with two possible dates emerging as most probable.

KUCHING — Violet Yong, a pending assemblyman, has suggested that Sarawak's forthcoming state election is likely to take place on either December 12 or December 19, signalling that the polls may be called before the year's end.
While no official announcement has been made by the state government, Yong's remarks provide an indication of when voters might expect to head to the ballot box. The timing would allow the election to proceed after the current parliamentary session concludes and before the festive season.
Sarawak's last state election was held in December 2021, when the Gabungan Parti Sarawak retained control of the state assembly. The current assembly is scheduled to dissolve by July 2026, though the government may opt to call early elections.
Pending assemblymen are candidates who won their seats in the previous election but have not yet been sworn in due to ongoing legal or administrative matters. Their comments on political developments often reflect discussions within ruling coalition circles.
