Satpura Reserve Launches Elephant Wellness Festival With Rest and Spa Treatments

Satpura Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh is rolling out a dedicated wellness programme for its working elephant population, marking the beginning of what officials are calling an 'elephant festival' that will run through September 20. The initiative provides a structured break from routine patrol and conservation duties for six elephants currently stationed at the reserve.

During the week-long programme, the elephants will receive therapeutic treatments designed to address the physical demands of their work in wildlife protection operations. The regimen includes regular massage sessions using neem and castor oil—traditional remedies long recognized in animal husbandry for their therapeutic properties. Reserve officials have introduced specialized dietary provisions to supplement the animals' regular forage, aimed at maintaining optimal health and addressing any nutritional deficiencies.

The festival reflects growing attention to animal welfare standards in Indian wildlife management. Working elephants in reserve and forest operations often endure demanding schedules navigating challenging terrain during patrolling activities.
