Saudi airstrikes on Yemen's Taiz kill dozens, Houthis claim

The Houthi-affiliated authorities in Yemen have accused Saudi Arabia of launching successive airstrikes on a commercial area near Taiz, one of the country's major cities, claiming the attacks have caused substantial loss of life and injuries.

According to the Houthis, the two strikes targeted a market on the outskirts of the city, leaving approximately 50 people dead or wounded. The group did not immediately provide independent verification of the casualty figures or additional details regarding the timing of the raids.

The accusation adds to mounting civilian casualty reports linked to the ongoing Yemen conflict, where Saudi-led coalition forces have conducted extensive air operations since 2015. Taiz has been a particularly contested area throughout the conflict, with civilian infrastructure frequently affected by military operations.

Saudi Arabia and its coalition partners have previously stated their commitment to avoiding civilian casualties and have claimed to conduct strikes only against military targets. However, international humanitarian organizations have repeatedly documented civilian deaths resulting from airstrikes in Yemen.
