Saudi Arabia said Wednesday that Houthi militants launched an attack on a power station in the Medina region, marking the latest escalation in the yearslong conflict in Yemen. The Saudi-led coalition, which has conducted air strikes in Yemen since 2015, did not provide immediate details about the extent of any damage or casualties from the alleged incident.
The Houthis, who control much of Yemen's populated north, swiftly denied the allegation. Spokespeople for the group branded the Saudi claim as a "lie," saying their forces were not responsible for any attack on the facility.
Attacks attributed to the Houthis have periodically targeted infrastructure in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. The group has deployed drone strikes and missile attacks in previous operations, though verification of such claims remains difficult given restricted access to conflict zones.
The assertion comes amid ongoing humanitarian concerns in Yemen, where years of warfare have devastated civilian infrastructure and left millions facing food insecurity. Both the coalition and the Houthis have faced international criticism over civilian harm during the conflict.
