Saudi Arabia intercepts fresh volley of Houthi missiles and drones

Saudi Arabia's air defense systems intercepted a drone and missile directed toward Riyadh on Wednesday, according to a statement from the Saudi-led coalition fighting Houthi forces in Yemen. The same day, coalition forces also thwarted an attack comprising ten ballistic missiles aimed at cities in Saudi Arabia's southern region, preventing what officials described as potential casualties and infrastructure damage.
The Houthis have maintained an extensive campaign of aerial assaults against Saudi territory since escalating their insurgency in recent years. The rebel group, which has received military support from Iran, has developed an increasingly sophisticated arsenal of unmanned systems and long-range missiles capable of reaching deep into Saudi Arabia.
The coalition, led by Riyadh, has conducted extensive air defense modernization efforts to counter the persistent threat posed by Houthi weaponry. These latest interceptions underscore the ongoing intensity of the conflict, which has claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions across Yemen since the coalition's intervention began in 2015.
Neither side has shown signs of backing down from the conflict, with the Houthis continuing to develop and deploy new attack capabilities while Saudi Arabia reinforces its defensive infrastructure. International efforts to broker a ceasefire have yielded limited results, leaving the humanitarian situation in Yemen increasingly dire.
