Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation said three people sustained injuries following coordinated attacks on Jazan and Najran airports on Wednesday. Both facilities, located in the southwestern region bordering Yemen, reported significant material damage from the strikes attributed to Houthi forces.
The attacks marked the latest in a series of incidents targeting Saudi civilian infrastructure by the Iranian-backed militant group. The Houthis have repeatedly launched drone and missile assaults on airports, ports, and other facilities across the kingdom in recent years, as part of their ongoing conflict with the Saudi-led coalition intervening in Yemen's civil war.
Saudi authorities have invested heavily in air defense systems and enhanced security measures at critical infrastructure sites following previous strikes. The kingdom's aviation authority said operations at both airports were being assessed following the incident.
The attacks underscore persistent security challenges in the region despite years of military intervention. International observers have expressed concern about the broader humanitarian crisis in Yemen, where the conflict has displaced millions and created severe shortages of food and medical supplies.
