The Saudi-led coalition said it successfully intercepted a missile targeting the Medina region in northwestern Saudi Arabia, according to a coalition spokesperson. The interception comes as part of the coalition's air defense operations against repeated attacks originating from Yemen.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree rejected the Saudi claim, stating that no operations were conducted targeting Saudi territories on the day in question. The denial reflects the ongoing dispute between the warring parties over the scope and frequency of military operations in the region.
The incident is part of a broader pattern of escalating military engagements between the Saudi-led coalition and Houthi forces. In recent weeks, the coalition has reported intercepting multiple ballistic missiles, including one previously aimed at Riyadh, while Houthi-aligned media outlets have reported their own strikes against coalition positions.
The yearslong conflict has devastated Yemen's civilian infrastructure and humanitarian situation, with both sides frequently accused of targeting civilian areas. International observers have called for a ceasefire and renewed diplomatic negotiations to end the fighting.
