Saudi-backed forces strike Houthi positions in Yemen's Sana'a

Saudi Arabia-backed Yemeni military forces conducted a fresh wave of missile attacks against Houthi positions in Sana'a on Monday, marking an escalation in the ongoing conflict in the Arabian Peninsula. The strikes targeted rebel-held infrastructure including oil facilities in the capital, according to military officials aligned with the internationally recognized Yemeni government.

The assault came after military commanders had issued warnings of imminent operations against the Iran-aligned Houthi movement, which has controlled much of northern Yemen including Sana'a since 2014. Details regarding casualty figures from the strikes remain unconfirmed, though reports suggest significant military losses among Houthi ranks.

The Houthi movement responded defiantly to the bombardment, pledging what they characterized as a severe and painful retaliation against the Saudi-backed coalition forces. The group has previously demonstrated capability to strike back through missile and drone attacks on military and civilian targets across the region.

The conflict in Yemen has created one of the world's worst humanitarian crises, with millions facing food insecurity and limited access to basic services. International efforts to broker a ceasefire between the warring parties have yielded limited results over the past decade.
