Saudi Arabia's Civil Defence announced on Monday that it had intercepted ballistic missiles and unmanned drones launched by Houthi militants in attacks across the kingdom. The interceptions were carried out as part of ongoing defensive operations against the Iranian-backed rebel group.
Debris from one intercepted ballistic missile fell in Khamis Mushait province, in the southwestern Asir region. The Saudi Civil Defence reported that the fallen debris resulted in limited material damage, with no immediate reports of casualties from the incident.
The reported interceptions come amid a pattern of attacks by Houthi forces against Saudi Arabia and regional targets. The group has previously claimed responsibility for launching missiles and drone strikes at military and civilian infrastructure across the Arabian Peninsula.
The Saudi-led coalition, which has been engaged in operations in Yemen since 2015, maintains active air defence systems across the kingdom to counter such threats. Regional security concerns have intensified in recent months as militant groups continue to develop and deploy increasingly sophisticated weaponry.
