The State Bank of India is anchoring its growth strategy on a philosophy of 'digital first, customer first, nation always,' according to Chairman C S Setty, as the bank seeks to consolidate its position in India's financial landscape.
Speaking in an interview, Setty outlined how the past two years of his tenure have focused on three key pillars: strengthening the bank's capital base, expanding its role within the financial sector, and building a modern, digitally-enabled banking platform centred on customer needs.
Among the most visible achievements during Setty's tenure were capital augmentation, the successful listing of SBI Mutual Fund, and the bank's pivotal role in managing the Yes Bank resolution. These represent tangible outcomes of the bank's strategic direction over the period.
Beyond these headline accomplishments, Setty emphasized that more substantial changes are materializing at deeper institutional levels. These foundational transformations, he suggested, are positioned to yield long-term benefits not only for SBI but for the broader banking industry in India, even as they remain less immediately visible to external observers.
The bank's multi-dimensional approach reflects an effort to balance commercial growth with broader financial sector development and enhanced customer experience through technological advancement.
