SBI poised to breach ₹10 trillion home loan milestone this quarter

State Bank of India, the nation's largest lender, is on track to achieve a significant milestone in its home loan business, with its mortgage portfolio expected to breach ₹10 lakh crore this quarter. The achievement reflects strong housing finance demand and SBI's commanding market position in the sector.

Chairman CS Setty attributed the growth to SBI's focus on expanding accessibility of home loan products across India. The bank currently holds approximately 28 per cent market share in the home loan segment and operates over 460 home loan processing centres nationwide to reach customers in diverse geographies.

SBI's home loan portfolio had already surpassed ₹9 lakh crore during the previous financial year, demonstrating consistent expansion in this business vertical. Setty highlighted that transparency in pricing and customer confidence in the bank's processes—including builder due diligence and documentation procedures—have been instrumental in driving mortgage demand.

The bank's growth in housing finance reflects broader momentum in India's residential real estate market, where mortgage lending has expanded significantly in recent years. SBI's scaling of processing infrastructure and streamlined loan approval mechanisms have enhanced its competitive position in attracting home loan customers across income segments and geographies.
