SBI races to complete DPDP compliance infrastructure by year-end

State Bank of India is accelerating its technology infrastructure upgrades to ensure compliance with the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, with installation and deployment of newly procured systems expected to be finalised by December, according to a senior bank official.

The bank has already completed procurement of required software and is in advanced stages of acquiring necessary hardware components. "Procurement of software is done and the deployment will be completed by December for DPDP compliance," the official said, adding that installation of both hardware and software systems will be concluded within the same timeframe.

As India's largest bank by assets, SBI handles enormous volumes of customer and financial data across its nationwide operations, making robust data security and privacy protocols essential to its technology infrastructure and regulatory compliance framework.

The technology overhaul reflects the banking sector's broader effort to align with India's new data protection regime. Organisations processing personal data across industries are undertaking similar compliance measures ahead of the DPDP Act's full implementation, with financial institutions facing particular scrutiny given the sensitive nature of customer information they handle.
