SBMA pushes port modernization to boost Luzon's trade competitiveness

SUBIC BAY — The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority is prioritizing the expansion and modernization of port facilities to enhance the freeport's role as a strategic trade and logistics center for Luzon, officials said during discussions at an economic development forum.

The infrastructure improvements are being positioned as critical to strengthening the Luzon Economic Corridor, a regional economic integration initiative aimed at boosting competitiveness across northern Philippine provinces. SBMA officials emphasized that enhanced port capabilities would enable the freeport to better serve regional and international shipping demands.

The modernization push reflects broader efforts to capitalize on Subic Bay's geographic advantages and existing infrastructure. By upgrading port facilities and expanding capacity, authorities aim to attract more logistics operators and trading companies to the freeport, generating additional economic activity in the region.
