A panel appointed by the Supreme Court will commence proceedings to investigate claims of pellet gun usage and alleged harassment during the recent NEET-related demonstrations in Delhi. The committee will hold public hearings on October 29 and 30 to gather testimonies from affected individuals and eyewitnesses.
Members of the public, protesters, and anyone impacted by the violence during the agitation have been invited to present complaints, representations, and evidence before the committee. The submission window will remain open between 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. on both scheduled dates, allowing citizens to formally lodge their accounts of events.
The judicial intervention follows widespread reports of confrontations between protesters and law enforcement personnel during the demonstrations against the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). The Supreme Court's decision to establish the inquiry committee reflects concerns about the conduct of authorities during the unrest.
The committee's findings are expected to provide an official record of the incidents and may inform recommendations regarding police conduct and crowd management protocols during future public protests in the capital.
