VALENCIA CITY — A school-based vaccination drive brought preventive health services to a remote community in Bukidnon on Tuesday, as Grade 4 student Elena Jane received her first Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine dose at Sinabuagan Integrated School, approximately 16 kilometers from Valencia City's commercial district.
The immunization session marked the official launch of Bakuna Eskwela, a collaborative program between the Department of Health and Department of Education designed to expand vaccine coverage in underserved areas. The initiative aims to reach students in geographically isolated communities where access to health facilities remains limited.
The program focuses on delivering essential immunizations directly to school campuses, eliminating barriers students face in accessing routine vaccinations. By bringing services to educational institutions, health officials aim to improve immunization rates while reducing dropout risks among vulnerable populations.
Bakuna Eskwela represents a coordinated effort to strengthen the country's immunization infrastructure and address health disparities affecting remote communities. Officials plan to extend the program to additional schools in the region as part of broader public health objectives.
