Authorities in Perak have directed all schools across three districts to cease operations with immediate effect as air quality deteriorated to unhealthy levels. The closure order affects educational institutions in Kinta Utara, Kinta Selatan and Kuala Kangsar following a spike in pollution readings.
The decision was triggered after the Air Pollutant Index in Ipoh reached 180, indicating hazardous air conditions that pose risks to public health, particularly for children and vulnerable groups. State education officials determined that the air quality posed an unacceptable risk to students and staff attending classes.
The temporary closure marks the latest in a series of precautionary measures undertaken across Malaysia's education sector during periods of severe haze. Schools have been instructed to monitor air quality readings and await further guidance on when normal operations may resume.
Parents have been advised to keep children indoors and minimise outdoor activities until air quality improves. The state environment department is continuing to monitor atmospheric conditions across the affected regions.
