Schools must report safety issues, not hide them for reputation: IGP
Malaysia's police chief has warned educational institutions against concealing safety concerns to protect their public image, cautioning that such cover-ups could compromise student welfare and hinder investigations.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain stressed the importance of transparency when addressing safety matters within schools, emphasising that institutions should prioritise student protection over institutional reputation.
The IGP's statement comes as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen safety protocols and accountability in Malaysia's education system. By discouraging the suppression of safety issues, authorities aim to create an environment where potential hazards are promptly identified and addressed.
Schools that conceal safety concerns risk enabling further incidents and obstructing the work of law enforcement and regulatory bodies. The IGP's remarks underscore the need for a culture of openness and responsibility among school management and administrators.
The warning reflects broader concerns about safeguarding measures in educational institutions across the country. Parents, education officials and policymakers have increasingly emphasised that school safety must never be compromised for the sake of maintaining a positive public image.
Authorities have called on all schools to establish clear reporting mechanisms for safety issues and to cooperate fully with relevant agencies in investigating and resolving any concerns that may arise.
