Schools shut in KL and Putrajaya as haze worsens; six states remain open

Schools in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya will be closed tomorrow as air quality levels continue to decline, prompting precautionary measures to protect students and staff. The decision follows sustained haze conditions affecting Malaysia's central region, with authorities monitoring the situation closely throughout the day.

Meanwhile, educational institutions in Melaka, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Perak, Pahang and Penang will continue normal operations, suggesting relatively better air quality in those states. State-level authorities have been assessing conditions independently to determine whether school closures are warranted in their respective jurisdictions.

Outdoor activities have been halted across affected areas as a precautionary health measure. The suspensions apply to school sports days, outdoor lessons and recreational activities to minimize exposure to poor air quality, particularly for vulnerable groups including children and the elderly.

The haze situation reflects ongoing transboundary air pollution challenges faced by Malaysia and neighbouring countries during this season. Residents have been advised to check official Air Pollutant Index readings and follow health guidance from the Ministry of Health regarding outdoor exposure and respiratory protection.
