LUCENA CITY — Environmental workers collected approximately 100 sea turtle eggs Sunday morning from nesting sites along Tayabas Bay in Sariaya, Quezon, marking a significant recovery for the ongoing breeding season.

The discovery brings the total clutch count gathered this season to 195 eggs, according to deputized fish warden Edwin Frias, who participates in local turtle conservation efforts. The eggs were recovered from their natural beach nesting grounds and are being secured under protection protocols.

Frias indicated that additional nests are anticipated as sea turtle breeding activity accelerates. The Tayabas Bay shoreline has emerged as a critical nesting area for pawikan, the local name for endangered sea turtles that periodically return to Philippine beaches to lay eggs.

The recovery of these clutches underscores ongoing conservation efforts in the region to protect endangered marine species. Environmental authorities continue to monitor nesting areas and work with local communities to ensure successful egg incubation and hatchling survival rates.
