Search continues for 17 missing Malaysians in flood-ravaged Nepal

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 7 — Rescue operations in flood-hit Nepal have expanded significantly as hopes of finding 17 missing Malaysians grow increasingly uncertain. The group disappeared when severe flash flooding struck the region approximately two weeks ago, leaving families and authorities searching desperately for survivors.

Searching teams have conducted multiple helicopter passes over the affected area and extended their search radius up to 30 kilometres downstream from where the group was last seen. Despite these intensive efforts, no confirmed sightings or physical evidence of the Malaysians has been recovered, raising concerns about their fate.

The search operation reflects growing coordination between Malaysian authorities and local Nepali rescue services. Weather conditions and terrain challenges have complicated retrieval efforts in the mountainous flood-affected region, though teams remain committed to locating the missing nationals.

The incident comes amid ongoing monsoon-related flooding across Nepal and surrounding regions that have caused significant casualties and displacement.
