TACLOBAN CITY — Authorities launched a search and retrieval operation Sunday for an unidentified man who reportedly fell from the San Juanico Bridge in Barangay 97-Cabalawan. Police said the incident was reported at 5:41 a.m. when personnel from the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 8's 805th Company, conducting foot patrol on the bridge, discovered the man had fallen into the water below.

Search teams were dispatched to the waters beneath the bridge as rescue efforts got underway. The identity of the man and the circumstances leading to the fall remained under investigation at the time of reporting.

The San Juanico Bridge, which spans the strait between Leyte and Samar islands, is one of the Philippines' longest bridges. Incidents involving people falling from the structure have occurred previously, prompting authorities to maintain regular patrols of the area.
