OLONGAPO CITY — A three-year-old boy remains missing after powerful floodwaters swept through his family residence in Villa Meranda, Old Cabalan Forestry, on Sunday, August 30, officials confirmed.
The incident occurred as rushing waters from a nearby river surged into the residential area, displacing the child from his home. Jeffrey Lapid, head of the Olongapo City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), said the boy was caught in the flooding when waters rapidly inundated the neighborhood.
Emergency response teams have been mobilized to locate the missing child. The CDRRMO is coordinating search and rescue efforts in the affected area, with authorities continuing to monitor the situation as floodwaters recede.
The incident highlights the vulnerability of communities living near waterways in low-lying areas during heavy rainfall. Olongapo City officials have urged residents in flood-prone zones to exercise caution during inclement weather and to heed evacuation orders when issued.
