Seat allocation for Melaka state election remains unsettled, says Takiyuddin
Denials of a finalised seat distribution agreement between Barisan Nasional and its coalition partners have emerged just one day after the BN secretary-general outlined a proposed split for the upcoming state election.

The seat allocation for the Melaka state election has not been settled, according to Takiyuddin Hassan, contradicting earlier announcements about a confirmed arrangement between Barisan Nasional and its allies.
The clarification came a day after Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, the BN secretary-general, announced the coalition's intended seat distribution, with BN contesting 21 seats and PAS and its allied parties competing for the remaining seven seats in the 28-seat state assembly.
Takiyuddin's statement suggests that discussions between the coalition partners on the final seat allocation are still ongoing, and no formal agreement has been reached despite public statements about the proposed arrangement.
The timing of the differing statements underscores the delicate negotiations required to align multiple political parties ahead of state elections. Coalition partners must balance their individual ambitions with broader electoral strategy to present a united front against opposition parties.
Further clarity on the finalised seat distribution is expected as negotiations between BN and its partners progress toward the state election.
