A significant fire erupted at a waste treatment site in Pasir Gudang in the early hours of Wednesday, prompting a swift emergency response from local fire services. The blaze was first detected at 3:17 a.m., spreading rapidly across the waste disposal area and engulfing an adjacent fibre storage facility. The fire covered approximately 46.5 square metres before crews mobilized to contain it.
Operations Commander Zuhdieyusni Said confirmed that firefighters deployed seawater pumping systems to combat the flames, taking advantage of the facility's proximity to coastal water sources. The use of seawater proved effective in suppressing the fire, which had threatened to spread further across the industrial site.
The incident highlights the ongoing fire risks at waste management facilities in the region and the importance of emergency preparedness at such installations. Authorities did not immediately release details on the cause of the fire or any reported injuries from the incident. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the blaze are expected to follow.
