SEBI Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey outlined the regulator's strategic priorities for India's capital markets on Saturday, emphasizing a three-pronged approach centered on facilitating capital formation, improving ease of doing business, and strengthening investor safeguards.
Addressing the Bharat Chamber of Commerce Investors Forum, Pandey highlighted the robust growth trajectory of India's capital markets over the past decade. Companies have raised an average of more than Rs 10 lakh crore annually through equity and debt issuances, demonstrating strong market momentum and deepening participation across the financial system.
While market efficiency remains paramount, Pandey underscored that investor protection represents an equally critical priority for the regulator. He emphasized that world-class capital markets must demonstrate resilience during periods of market stress, not merely operate efficiently under normal conditions.
The SEBI chairman's remarks reflect the regulator's commitment to building a capital markets infrastructure that supports India's economic growth while maintaining safeguards for market participants. The focus on accessibility aims to broaden participation among retail and institutional investors across the country's financial ecosystem.
