Second earthquake strikes off Johor coast in two months
A 3.1-magnitude tremor hit the waters off Batu Pahat on Tuesday afternoon, the second seismic event in the region within eight weeks. Authorities confirmed there is no tsunami threat.

A moderate earthquake measuring 3.1 on the Richter scale was detected off the coast of Batu Pahat in Johor on Tuesday at 4:12pm local time. The tremor occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres, according to seismic monitoring data.
The incident marks the second significant seismic activity recorded in the area within the past two months, raising questions about increased tectonic activity in the region. However, authorities have ruled out any risk of a tsunami following the latest tremor.
No immediate reports of damage or casualties have been reported on the mainland. Residents in coastal areas experienced minor tremors, though the offshore location of the epicentre limited the impact onshore.
The Batu Pahat area sits within a relatively active seismic zone for Malaysia. While earthquakes are not uncommon in the region, the recent cluster of events has drawn renewed attention to geological monitoring in the area.
