Second health sector strike looms in Andhra Pradesh as government ignores demands

Healthcare workers across Andhra Pradesh are set to intensify their industrial action following the government's silence on their grievances. The second strike comes after junior doctors, contract staff, and paramedical workers have already demonstrated their discontent with working conditions and pending demands.

The Joint Action Committee spearheading the movement has outlined a multi-phase protest strategy that begins with symbolic gestures such as black badge campaigns and lunch-hour demonstrations. These initial measures will be followed by a shutdown of online services and a state-wide dharna, or sit-in protest, designed to amplify pressure on authorities.

The escalation reflects growing frustration among health sector employees, particularly following a June 17 protest that elicited no response from the state administration. According to the JAC chairman, the government's failure to engage has necessitated stronger action.

The committee has designed the final phase of agitation as a selective duty boycott with built-in safeguards to ensure emergency medical services remain operational. This approach aims to maximize pressure while maintaining minimum care standards for critical patients, underscoring the workers' commitment to balancing their demands with public health obligations.
