The second generating unit at the Lakvijaya Power Plant in Norochcholai has been taken out of service for routine maintenance, the National System Operator (NSO) Company confirmed. The shutdown was conducted as part of the facility's scheduled maintenance programme to ensure continued operational efficiency.
The NSO has assessed the impact of the unit's temporary unavailability and determined that sufficient generating capacity remains available across the national electricity system to meet current and projected demand without interruption.
The Lakvijaya Power Plant, a coal-fired thermal generation facility, forms a significant component of Sri Lanka's energy infrastructure. Routine maintenance of generating units is essential to maintain reliability and extend operational lifespan of power generation assets.
The NSO continues to monitor the national grid's performance and has put contingency measures in place to ensure stable electricity supply throughout the maintenance period. The timeline for the unit's return to service has not been disclosed.
