Security forces defuse 27 IEDs along Manipur highway stretch

Security personnel have successfully defused 27 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) discovered along an 8-kilometre stretch of the Shangkhalok-Pilong route in Manipur's Kamjong district. The joint operation, conducted by Assam Rifles and Indian Army bomb disposal specialists, secured the roadway amid heightened tensions in the region.

The discovery and subsequent neutralization of the devices reflects ongoing security challenges along major thoroughfares in the northeastern state. The operation was undertaken following recent incidents of violence in the area, underscoring the volatile security environment affecting civilian populations and transport corridors.

The operation comes days after four Tangkhul Naga civilians were killed near Pilong village, highlighting the persistent threat posed by armed groups operating in the region. Security agencies have intensified patrolling and clearance operations along critical routes to prevent further casualties and maintain road safety.

The recovery of the IEDs from the highway stretch represents a significant seizure and underscores the continued efforts by security forces to counter insurgency-related activities in Manipur. Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
