PAGADIAN CITY – Security forces have confiscated smuggled cigarettes worth over P1 million following a checkpoint operation in Zamboanga Sibugay. The interdiction took place Friday afternoon along a national highway in Barangay La Paz, Naga town, where joint personnel from the local police station and the Army's 106th Infantry Battalion conducted routine inspections.
Officials did not immediately disclose details regarding the intended destination of the contraband shipment or the circumstances under which it was discovered. The operation reflects ongoing security efforts to combat smuggling networks operating throughout the Zamboanga Peninsula.
The seizure adds to a series of recent contraband interceptions in Mindanao as authorities intensify anti-smuggling operations across key transportation corridors. Tobacco products remain among the most frequently smuggled goods in the Philippines due to significant price differentials and organized criminal networks involved in illicit trade.
