Selangor allocates RM100,000 to support wives, children facing maintenance arrears
The Selangor government has launched a financial assistance programme to help families struggling with unpaid maintenance orders issued by Islamic courts. The initiative aims to provide relief to wives and children whose court-mandated support payments remain outstanding.

Selangor has set aside RM100,000 through the Jaringan Kebajikan Islam Selangor (Jakess) to assist families affected by maintenance payment defaults, addressing a growing problem affecting vulnerable households across the state.
The programme targets families with valid court orders for nafkah, or spousal and child maintenance, issued by Shariah courts but who have not received the mandated payments. Eligible beneficiaries include wives and dependent children left without adequate financial support due to non-compliance by obligated parties.
The initiative represents the state government's effort to bridge the gap between court orders and actual payment compliance, providing temporary financial relief while enforcement mechanisms work to recover outstanding amounts. Officials indicated the assistance programme aims to ensure families do not face immediate hardship while pursuing legal remedies.
Administration of the fund will be handled through established Islamic welfare channels, streamlining the application and distribution process for affected families. The allocation underscores Selangor's commitment to supporting economically vulnerable household members facing delayed or withheld maintenance payments.
