SHAH ALAM — Selangor will observe September 1 as a special holiday following the state's success at the recently concluded Malaysia Games (Sukma), the state government announced on Monday.
The declaration recognises the achievements of Selangor's athletes who secured top honours at the biennial sporting event, as well as the efforts of approximately 10,000 volunteers who supported the games.
The one-day public holiday is intended to allow residents to celebrate the state's sporting accomplishments and acknowledge the dedication of those involved in making the games a success. The decision underscores Selangor's commitment to recognising sporting excellence and community participation in major events.
The Malaysia Games, held periodically, brings together athletes from all 13 Malaysian states and the Federal Territories to compete across numerous sporting disciplines. Selangor's strong performance at the games reflects the state's investment in sports development and athlete training programmes.
