The MyLapor system, which enables citizens to report smoking and vaping offences through a digital channel, has garnered significant public engagement since its launch. According to the Health Ministry, the platform received a total of 1,113 complaints from its October 12 launch through 2pm on October 15, demonstrating strong uptake among Malaysian residents.
Selangor emerged as the state with the highest volume of reports submitted to the system during this initial period. The prevalence of complaints in the state reflects heightened public awareness of the reporting mechanism and widespread concern about non-compliance with smoking and vaping regulations.
The MyLapor initiative represents a modernised approach to enforcing tobacco and vaping control measures across Malaysia. By providing a convenient digital platform for public reporting, the Health Ministry aims to strengthen compliance with existing legislation and reduce smoking and vaping in designated non-smoking areas.
The system's early performance indicates substantial public willingness to participate in enforcement efforts. Authorities will use the complaints data to identify compliance issues and target enforcement activities in areas with the highest violation reports.
