Selangor Sultan treats 149 orphans to special flight for silver jubilee

SUBANG — Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah of Selangor celebrated his silver jubilee on the throne by fulfilling a special wish for 149 orphans, who experienced their first flight during an aerial outing from Subang Airport. The Tengku Permaisuri Selangor accompanied the Sultan on the charitable initiative, which underscored his commitment to the state's most vulnerable children.

The flight marked an unconventional yet touching milestone celebration for the 25-year reign of the Sultan, who has long maintained an active presence in community and welfare programmes across Selangor. The gesture provided the orphans with a unique experience, many boarding an aircraft for the first time in their lives.

The initiative reflects the royal household's broader engagement with charitable causes throughout Selangor. Such public-facing welfare activities have become a distinctive feature of the Sultan's stewardship, emphasizing accessibility and direct support for underprivileged segments of the state's population.

The aerial excursion was organised as part of broader festivities marking the Sultan's 25 years on the throne, a period that has seen significant development and modernisation across the state.
