MANILA — Senator JV Ejercito, who chairs the Senate Committee on Finance, on Wednesday vowed to prioritize funding allocation for the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP) and North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) to prevent further implementation setbacks.
The twin rail initiatives represent critical components of the capital region's transport infrastructure expansion, aimed at reducing congestion and improving connectivity across Metro Manila and surrounding provinces. Both projects have experienced schedule delays attributed partly to budgetary challenges.
Ejercito's commitment comes as the Philippines continues efforts to modernize its public transportation network. The senator's position as finance committee chair places him in a key role to influence budget allocations during legislative deliberations on the national budget.
The Metro Manila Subway Project, a deep-tunnel railway system, and the North-South Commuter Railway, which extends passenger rail service northward, are considered essential to the government's infrastructure development agenda under the current administration.
