Senate Finance Panel Fast-Tracks Approval of 7.7B Budget

MANILA — The Senate finance committee has given its stamp of approval to the upper chamber's proposed budget for fiscal year 2027, moving the appropriations measure forward in the legislative process. Senate Secretary Atty. Renato Bantug presented the institutional budget before the committee on Thursday, with the approval coming without significant delays or amendments.

The proposed 7.7 billion peso allocation for the Senate aligns with the spending limits set by the Department of Budget and Management in the National Expenditures Program. Bantug indicated that the Senate is accepting the budgetary ceiling established by the executive branch, signaling a streamlined approval process at the committee level.

The committee's quick approval suggests broad consensus among senators on the chamber's fiscal requirements for the coming year. The budget now advances to higher levels of consideration as Congress works to finalize the national appropriations bill ahead of the fiscal year 2027 deadline.

The Senate's budget covers operational expenses, personnel costs, and other institutional requirements needed to maintain the chamber's legislative functions and support services for the 24 sitting senators.
