Senate impeachment court approves Duterte's appearance for late September

MANILA – The Senate impeachment court has accepted Davao City Mayor Sebastian "Baste" Duterte's petition to testify before the tribunal later this month, officials confirmed Monday.
Duterte submitted his request via letter to the impeachment court, with Presiding Officer Sen. Francis "Chiz" Escudero announcing the approval to media. The mayor is scheduled to appear on September 29 and 30.
Duterte is among several witnesses who have been subpoenaed in connection with ongoing impeachment proceedings. His appearance before the Senate impeachment court comes as the tribunal continues hearing evidence in the case.
The Davao City mayor's scheduled testimony adds to a series of witness appearances expected in the coming weeks as the impeachment process advances.
