Senate impeachment court orders prosecutors to explain sub judice violations

The Senate impeachment court has issued show-cause orders to certain members of the House prosecution panel for possible violations of the sub judice rule, Presiding Officer Chiz Escudero announced Wednesday. The orders direct the prosecutors to explain their conduct regarding statements made outside the trial proceedings. Under the sub judice rule, parties involved in a case are prohibited from making public statements that could prejudice ongoing judicial proceedings or influence the court's deliberations. Escudero said the action was taken in accordance with the court's August 26, 2026 directive mandating strict enforcement of Rule 18, which governs the impeachment trial procedures. The show-cause orders require the implicated prosecutors to respond to the allegations and provide explanations for their conduct before the impeachment court.
