MANILA – Top Senate leaders have dismissed calls for the House of Representatives to revisit its 2027 General Appropriations Bill following a Supreme Court ruling that invalidated controversial provisions in the 2024-2026 national budgets.
Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian and Sen. Panfilo Lacson stated there is no necessity for the lower chamber to recall the bill to address the high court's decision. The Supreme Court had declared unconstitutional several key provisions contained in the national budgets covering the previous three-year period.
The senators' position suggests the Senate believes the 2027 budget can proceed as currently approved without requiring corrective amendments based on the Court's findings. Their stance indicates confidence that the structure and provisions of the incoming budget are sufficiently aligned with constitutional requirements.
The Supreme Court's ruling has prompted renewed scrutiny of budget mechanisms and appropriations procedures across Congress. The Senate leadership's assertion that no recall is necessary may streamline the legislative process as lawmakers prepare for budget implementation in the coming fiscal year.
