Senate minority calls for dialogue with Dela Rosa amid bounty announcement

MANILA—Members of the Senate minority have called on authorities to pursue dialogue with Sen. Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa, days after a substantial bounty was announced for his capture.

In a joint statement released Saturday, the opposition senators affirmed their solidarity with Dela Rosa, emphasizing the importance of upholding his constitutional right to due process. The lawmakers stressed that dialogue remains the appropriate channel for addressing the matter.

The minority bloc's call comes as tensions escalate surrounding Dela Rosa, who has previously served as Philippine National Police chief and chief implementer of the government's drug war. The P50-million bounty announcement has intensified scrutiny on the former security official.

The senators argued that resorting to confrontational measures undermines democratic principles and urged all parties to resolve the situation through constructive engagement. They reiterated their commitment to defending the rights of all citizens, regardless of political affiliation.

The development reflects deepening divisions within the legislative body over handling high-profile political issues. Government officials have not yet responded to the minority's call for dialogue.
