Senate panel clears DND's 2027 budget proposal for full chamber review

MANILA — The Senate finance subcommittee moved forward Monday with its review of the defense sector's spending plans, endorsing the Department of National Defense budget proposal for fiscal year 2027 along with funds allocated to its attached agencies.

Subcommittee chair Sen. JV Ejercito announced that the DND's financial proposal now advances to the Senate plenary for comprehensive consideration. "The budget of the DND is now deemed submitted for the plenary's consideration, subject to discussion and possible budgetary adjustments," Ejercito stated following the panel's action.

The measure will undergo further scrutiny during plenary deliberations, where lawmakers may propose modifications to the defense allocation. The Senate typically uses plenary sessions to debate spending priorities and adjust budget levels across government departments before final passage.

The approval represents a procedural milestone in the annual budget cycle, with the defense sector's funding needs now positioned for broader legislative examination and debate among the full complement of senators.
