MANILA — The Senate gave its final approval on Monday to a bill that would significantly expand the scope of the Philippines' national nutrition programs for children. Senate Bill No. 2272, known as the Expanded National Nutrition Program, passed on third and final reading and builds upon the framework established by Republic Act No. 11037, the Masustansyang Pagkain Para Sa Batang Pilipino Act.
The legislation, sponsored by Senator Bam Aquino, is part of the government's priority legislative agenda under the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council, or Ledac. The bill seeks to strengthen existing nutrition initiatives and extend their reach to more beneficiaries across the country.
The expanded program is intended to address nutritional deficiencies among children and improve overall health outcomes in vulnerable communities. By broadening the scope of current nutrition efforts, the measure aims to ensure that more Filipino families have access to nutritionally adequate food and related support services.
The bill now moves to the House of Representatives for consideration. Officials expect the measure to complement ongoing government efforts to combat malnutrition and support child development across the nation.
