Senate passes stricter penalties for hospital patient detention over unpaid bills

The Senate has given final approval to Senate Bill No. 1511, the proposed Enhanced Anti-Hospital Detention Act, addressing longstanding concerns about healthcare facilities withholding patients as collateral for outstanding medical bills.

Senator Mark Villar expressed support for the measure, which introduces stiffer penalties against hospitals and medical clinics found to unlawfully detain patients or their family members over unpaid healthcare costs.
