MANILA — Senator Jinggoy Estrada requires surgery to address a complete tear in the meniscus of his left knee, an orthopedic specialist said Wednesday.
Dr. Fernando Syquia, an orthopedic surgeon at Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan City, described the injury as significant during a consultation. "We saw that it was a complete tear. It's pretty bad," Dr. Syquia said in an interview at the medical facility.
The senator underwent examination at the hospital following the knee injury. Medical specialists determined that surgical repair would be necessary to address the extent of the damage to the meniscus, the cartilage that cushions the knee joint.
Details regarding the timeline for the procedure and the senator's current condition were not immediately disclosed. The recommendation underscores the severity of the injury sustained by the long-serving legislator.
