MANILA — Sen. Loren Legarda will remain on medical leave through early September, the Senate confirmed Monday. Senate Secretary Renato Bantug said Legarda's office notified the chamber that the senator would be absent from August 24 to 26 and again from September 1 to 2.
The medical leave extension represents the fourth consecutive period of absence for Legarda from her Senate duties. No details regarding the nature of her medical condition or expected date of return to full legislative activities have been disclosed.
Legarda, a veteran lawmaker and two-time presidential candidate, has represented the Philippines in the Senate since 2004. Her extended absences come amid an active legislative calendar in the upper chamber.
