Senator Marcoleta accused of soliciting P20 million from businessman
A witness testified before the Sandiganbayan on Thursday that Senator Rodante Marcoleta allegedly solicited P20 million from businessman Aristotle Viray in connection with a P75-million plunder case. Maria Melinda Mananghaya-Henson of the Ombudsman's Field Investigation Bureau, who spearheaded the initial investigation into the case, presented the allegation during the ongoing court proceedings at the Sandiganbayan, the Philippines' anti-graft court.
Viray is among several donors identified as sources of the P75 million in funds that form the basis of the plunder charges. The case centers on allegations that the senator improperly solicited and received funds from business associates and political allies.
