Senator proposes adding parents' birthdates to PSA birth certificates
A Philippine senator has suggested that the Philippine Statistics Authority include parental birthdates on birth certificates to combat fraudulent registrations and identity theft. The proposal was raised during Senate budget hearings this week.

Senator Raffy Tulfo has proposed amending Philippine Statistics Authority procedures to require parents' dates of birth on certificates of live birth, a measure aimed at reducing fraudulent registrations and preventing identity manipulation.
Tulfo presented the idea during the Senate finance committee's budget deliberations, arguing that the additional biographical information would serve as a security measure against document fraud.
The proposal represents an effort to strengthen the integrity of the PSA's vital registration system, which underpins numerous legal and administrative processes in the Philippines. Birth certificates are critical documents used for establishing citizenship, accessing government services, and conducting business transactions.
Including parental birthdates would create a more comprehensive record that officials could use to verify the authenticity of birth registrations and detect suspicious or duplicate filings, according to the proposal's logic.
The senator's suggestion is pending consideration as part of ongoing discussions on the PSA's operational framework and budget allocation.
