MANILA — Senator Joel Villanueva pressed the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) on Friday to expedite implementation of a P85 minimum wage increase in Metro Manila, citing widespread uncertainty stemming from overlapping wage directives.
Villanueva's appeal centered on Wage Order No. 27, which the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) had approved, mandating the wage adjustment for the capital region. The senator emphasized the need for clarity and immediate action to prevent further confusion among workers and employers.
The call for swift implementation underscores mounting concern over delays in wage adjustments that have left workers uncertain about their compensation levels. Villanueva stressed that timely execution of the wage order would provide needed relief to Metro Manila workers amid rising costs of living.
